June 9
We chose to spend the night at Dowry Creek Marina instead of one in
town, again because of good feedback from AGLCA members who have already
been through here. Good choice. There’s not much here, but the
owner and assistant are extremely helpful, and the pool is great!
The present owner bought the marina in 1998, and it was destroyed
in 1999 by Hurricanes Dennis (twice, since it swung back through a
second time), Irene and especially Floyd. Talk about luck. Sometimes
it’s nice to kick back and have dinner on board, which was our
plan. But First Mate met couples at the pool who were traveling together
& asked her to take pictures of them. In return, they invited
us to their potluck dinner at the clubhouse next to the pool, again
reinforcing the fact that boaters are some of the friendliest folks
you’ll ever meet. The next morning the sky looked ominous and
the fog prevented us from leaving as early as we had planned.
