Traveled through the Haulover Canal on our way to Daytona Beach. Also
went through Mosquito Lagoon, where we had our first encounter with
horseflies on board; no problem with mosquitoes. This megayacht on
the next dock has a checkered flag on the bow. We were sure it must
belong to a race car driver, but marina staff said owner is just a
race fan. We had a problem on the way here that prevented us from
getting up to full speed. Had a mechanic look at it & found nothing
wrong. He suggested having a diver check the bottom. The diver we
hired found a plastic bag in the air conditioner pickup, a small line
around the port prop and many barnacles that he scraped off. We had
just had the bottom power washed in April, so it doesn’t take
long for strange things that lurk beneath the sea to accumulate on
boat bottoms. We went out for a test run and she ran just fine. While
here the Captain had an unfortunate bicycle accident; his arm met
with a very rough brick wall and required 7 stitches at the local
hospital emergency room. So much for our bike ride to the beach.
